With the Windows 7 Release Candidate expiration date is just a few days away, many of Windows 7 RC users are asking a way to downgrade to Windows XP/Vista. In this guide, we will show you how to downgrade from Windows 7 to XP.

1. Open your Windows 7 drive (usually C drive) and make sure that you haven’t deleted the Windows.old folder, which was created by Windows while installing Windows 7 on XP drive. Note that without the help of Windows.old folder you won’t be able to downgrade from Windows 7.

2. Now check the size of Windows.old folder by right-clicking and then selecting properties. Make sure that Windows.old folder size is less than two times the amount of free space available on Windows 7 drive (C drive). If the Windows.old folder size is two times as large as the Windows 7 drive free space, disable system restore feature and also disk cleanup to get some free space.

Please note down your Windows 7 drive letter and also DVD drive letter before proceeding to the next step.
3. Insert your Windows 7 installation disc in the drive and reboot your machine. Press any key when prompted to do so.
4. Select your language, time, keyboard type and then hit Next button to continue.

5. In the Install Windows screen, click Repair your computer option to open System Recovery Options.

6. Here select your Windows 7 OS and note down your Windows 7 Drive letter before clicking Next.

7. In the following window, click Command Prompt to start downgrading from Windows 7 to XP.

8. First you need to move all the contents of your Windows 7 drive to a folder. So type the following commands one by one and then hit enter after each command (here “D” is your Windows 7 drive letter).

Md Win7
Move Windows Win7\Windows
Move “Program Files” “Win7\Program Files”
Move Users Win7\Users
Attrib –h –s –r ProgramData
Move ProgramData Win7\ProgramData
Rd “Documents and Settings”

9. Next you need to copy all the contents of Windows.old folder to the drive. Again, type all the commands mentioned below one by one and then hit enter after each command.

move /y d:\Windows.old\Windows d:\
move /y “d:\Windows.old\Program Files” d:\
move /y “d:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings” d:\

10. Next task is to restore the boot sector by entering the following command:
E:\boot\bootsect /nt52 d:
(Where E is your DVD driver letter & D is OS drive letter)

11. Finally restore the boot.ini file by executing the following commands:
Attrib –h –s –r boot.ini.saved
Copy boot.ini.saved boot.ini

12. Type Exit and reboot your machine to start using your Windows XP again. You are done! If you want to free up some disk space, delete Win7 folder in the root of your XP drive. Good luck!

Berikut ini saya jelaskan tentang bagaimana caranya dual boot windows 7 dan windows xp, dengan windows 7 terinstal pertama.
Langkah-langkah tutorial untuk membuat dual boot windows 7 dan windows xp:
1. Intro
Pada postingan ini, saya ingin memberikan tutorial tentang bagaimana cara membuat dual boot windows 7 dan windows xp, dengan system operasi yang terinstal sebelumnya adalah windows 7. 
2. Install windows xp
Langkah selanjutnya adalah menginstal windows xp, cara instalnya tidak beda dengan cara install windows xp umumnya. Yang perlu diperhatikan yaitu windows xp di install pada drive/partisi yang berbeda dengan windows 7. Umpama windows 7 diinstal di drive C:, maka windows xp di install di selain drive C:, bisa D:,E:, atau yang lain sesuai dengan keinginan. Untuk menginstal windows xp di butuhkan paling tidak 5GB free space dari partisi yang akan digunakan tadi.
3. Status Repair (windows 7)
Status repair adalah mengembalikan BOOTLOADER dari windows7 yang tertimpa oleh windows xp. Karena setelah menginstal windows xp, maka windows 7 tidak bisa digunakan lagi(karena tidak bisa booting), nah cara buat mengembalikan BOOTLOADER dari windows 7 yaitu dengan cara status repair menggunakan DVD instalan windows 7.
4. Mengembalikan BOOTLOADER dari windows xp
Setelah windows 7 bisa di gunakan(bisa booting), windows xp gantian tidak bisa di load(booting), nah untuk mengembalikan BOOTLOADER dari windows xp ini kita membutuhkan aplikasi yang namanya EasyBCD, yang bisa kamu download disini. Aplikasi yang dapat digunakan untuk melihat dan memodifikasi bootloader pada Windows Vista. Tapi aplikasi ini juga bisa di gunakan untuk Windows 7. Ini juga bekerja baik untuk memodifikasi bootloader dari Windows 7 . Adapun cara menggunakan aplikasi ini yaitu:
Setelah terinstal maka akan ada tampilah seperti ini:


Klik pada menu Add/Remove Entries, pada tab Drive: pilih dimana letak windows xp tadi terinstal. Dari drive ini nanti akan di cari bootloader dari windows xp, sehingga jangan sampai salah dalam memilih drive tempat windows xp terinstal. Selanjutnya

Pada tab Type: pilih Windows/NT/2K/XP/2K3. Pada dasarnya ini digunakan untuk memilih system operasi yang terinstal yaitu windows XP. Setelah selasai ganti Namenya dengan Microsoft Windows XP. Jika sudah klik tombol Add Entry yang ada di pojok kanan bawah.
Jika terjadi eror yang isinya bahwa NTLDR dan NTDETECT.COM tidak di temukan, berarti musti dowload dulu 2 file tersebut di link yang di tunjukan oleh popup dari aplikasi tersebut, tapi biar lebih cepet download disini saja.
Jika sudah didowload, extrak file.zip tersebut di drive dimana windows xp tadi diinstal. Misal contoh windows xp di install di drive D:\, maka file.zip tadi langsung di ekstrak ke drive D:\ . jika sudah coba klik tombol Ass Entry lagi, jika masih gagal keluar dari aplikasi EasyBCD dan masuk lagi ke aplikasi itu(direstart jika computer). Ulangi lagi tahap 4 ini, jika berhasil klik tombol save. Keluar dari aplikasi dari restart OS kamu, dan hasilnya seperti di bawah ini:
 
 
Disitu terlihat ada dua pilihan untuk masuk ke system operasi yang di ingikan. Tinggal pilih salah satu dan tekan enter, maka akan masuk ke system operasi yang kamu pilh tadi.
Nah gampangkan cara dualbootnya, selain windows7 windows vista juga bisa di dualboot dengan windows xp. Cara dual boot di windows vista-xp sama windows 7-xp.
